Victorian Scottish Tartanware Sliding Stamp Box, c. 1860–1890

Victorian Scottish tartanware sliding stamp box, late 19th century, made to hold loose postage stamps at the desk or in the pocket. Lightweight wood wrapped in tartan-printed paper under a clear varnish, in a green and red sett, with a pull-out drawer opened by a thumb notch. The blank cartouche on the front was intended for a monogram or retailer label and remains unmarked. Tartanware of this kind was produced in Scotland during the Victorian tartan revival and is collected today for desk and shelf styling.

The exterior shows surface wear, small scratches, and light rubbing to the varnished tartan finish, with visible craquelure to the varnish typical of Victorian tartanware. The wooden drawer slides smoothly and shows expected wear to the interior. No chips or structural damage observed. The cartouche remains blank.
