Pair of salt-glazed stoneware bottles, 19th century, in a rich iron-brown glaze produced by the traditional salt-firing process. Each is of tall cylindrical form and was made for storing beer, mineral water, or spirits. The base is marked with impressed initials, a practice European potteries used to identify the kiln or maker. Plain, well-proportioned utilitarian pieces that work as bud vases or as sculptural objects on a shelf or mantel.
