[condition] The binding is striking and structurally strong, the half crimson morocco holding well with minimal shelfwear and bright gilt lettering on the spine. The red cloth boards are clean and the raised bands are crisp. The text block edges have aged to a warm yellow tone, natural for a volume of this age. Foxing is present throughout, moderate in the text and more concentrated around the frontispiece portrait and the preliminary pages, all consistent with age and authentic in character. Internally the book is firm and the binding sound. A handsomely preserved copy with a commanding presence.
