[condition] The boards are firmly attached and the hinges tight. The headcaps and corners show light rubbing and the spine ridges exhibit minor chafing where the gilt has thinned, all consistent with age and use. The cover gilt remains bright and the all-around gilt edges have mellowed to a soft burnish. Internally, foxing is confined to the front flyleaf and a few early leaves, concentrated around the gift inscription, but the gatherings are crisp and complete throughout. A very good copy in a handsome period binding with appealing provenance.
