Vintage Viking Style Drinking Horn with Leather Strap

A drinking horn on a long leather thong, made to hang over the shoulder and be carried. It has no foot, so it cannot be set down while there is anything in it, which is why horns get passed around a table rather than parked on one. Hung on a hook, the dark exterior against the warmer interior color reads well on a wall.

Areas of discoloration and natural color variation across the horn, which is the material's own figure rather than damage. The rim shows small edge irregularities and wear along the lip where it would meet the mouth. The leather strap shows wear along its length and carries a tied knot detail. The metal fitting at the tip is intact and holds the strap securely. No cracks, splits, or delamination found in the horn wall.

Horn is porous and reacts to heat and acid. Not recommended for hot liquids or for holding acidic beverages for any length of time.
