Antique English Brass Toilet Paper Holder

A late Victorian to Edwardian wall-mounted toilet paper holder in cast brass, made in England in the pierced and scrolled style favored by the Aesthetic Movement. The back plate is a high pierced gallery of scrollwork around a central cartouche, and the scrolled side brackets curl forward to hold the roll between them. The original gilt finish survives across most of the surface, with verdigris and warm patina settled into the recesses where it should be. The roll bar is no longer present, so a buyer will want to fit a wooden dowel or replacement spring rod to put it back into service.

The holder is in honest antique condition with age-appropriate wear throughout. The cast brass body is structurally sound with no cracks or breaks to the pierced scrollwork on the back plate or the scrolled side brackets. The original gilt finish is largely intact across the front and sides, with expected wear on the high points and verdigris settled into the recessed areas, especially across the pierced gallery and underside. The original roll bar that would have spanned the side brackets is missing, so the holder is not currently functional as is. A buyer can easily fit a wooden dowel or a standard spring-loaded replacement rod between the brackets to return it to use. The two mounting holes through the back plate are clear and original. Mounting screws are not included.
